Sunset Park, Brooklyn (Demographics)

(Local Deli Shops)

8th Avenue is mainly occupied by a mixture of Asian immigrants. Many of them came from China Provinces. This area slowly became one of the most popular area for local shoppers. Overtime Brooklyn, Chinatown is slowly becoming a tourist’s attraction, similar to Chinatown in Manhattan. Starting from 2000, 8th avenue was not as crowded compared to back then. As more immigrants began settling down in Sunset Park, eventually they would bring their relatives in China to America. Because of many Chinese immigrants coming to this neighborhood. This result into the reason why other ethnic groups, such as the white, Hispanic and black residents starting to decrease overtime. Residents who were previously lived in Sunset Park decides to move away from 8th avenue, but instead they start to relocate around Bay-ridge or further down to Bath avenue or Bensonhurts.

Residents who lived around 8th avenue, like myself it was very convenient. Residents were walking distance to access to majority of industrial goods and groceries. As for me, I lived at 6th avenue, a less populated area for consumers since it’s mainly residential areas. Delis, laundromat, salon and my local park was only literally steps away from my house. While it is still fairly close to 8th avenue where, there are probably only a handful of shops. Mainly Chinese restaurants, supermarket, banks, clinics and other small businesses who would sell small merchandise goods imported from overseas.
