Dadu's ( Grandmother) saree

                                            Dadu’s (grandmother) saree.

This is my grandma's saree, a saree is a cultural piece of clothing that is draped around your body. There are different kinds of saree, different materials such as silk georgette, cotton and many more, it is a very popular piece of cloth in my country. There are different ways you can drape a saree, it usually depends on your style or regional background. Depending on where you are from you may wear the saree at a young age or when you are older, location also determines how you wear it. Back in the days, this was casual wear, especially for married women. I grew up seeing my mother and grandmothers wearing saree. But now in the modern days, women wear saree occasionally such as at weddings and parties. Some women back home in Bangladesh, still wear the saree as casual wear.

This particular saree is my grandmother, she wasn’t able to immigrate to America when I and my family came because she passed away. This saree is important to me and relates to my experience because she always dreamed of us going to America for a better life. She wasn’t able to come some wearing her saree here in America represents her being here with me and my family. This saree represents my culture as well. I did come to America and adapt to the western culture but this reminds me to stay in touch with my roots. I wear cultural wear at home or special events and this saree is very close to my heart so I wore this to a family wedding.  A saree is six long yards of fabric, it's very long and in a way, this saree shows how long my journey to America was.
